Auburndale was founded in 1880 by some northern folks seeking a warm winter refuge. Since then, the citrus groves and ranching have been the maintstays of the local economy. The rural setting is what makes this ride appealing as you roll past the multitude of lakes in this area. We doubt you’ll find a road with more curves per mile than Lake Lowery Road.

The Goethe State Forest in Levy County was established in 1992. Tree-lined roadways meander through one of the largest tracts of contiguous, old-growth longleaf pine flatwoods in the state and is home to black bears, fox squirrels, and bald eagles. The forest is open during daylight hours for hiking, fishing, picnics, and horseback riding. Gas up before leaving Dunnellon.

Updated Route – Jan 2023 – We discovered that portions of Hammock Rd are not paved so we have adjusted the route with a turn on CR 635 taking you to SR 66. Route is 10 miles shorter. Starting in Sebring and takes you on a scenic ride to Lake Placid where you’ll find dozens of murals in the historic downtown. This area also produces 98 percent of the world’s supply of caladiums. The east side of the loop takes you around Lake lstokpoga, Florida’s fifth largest lake renown for its bass fishing.

Summers are HOT in Florida but you can find some relief at two of Florida’s cool natural springs. Rainbow Springs is the starting point on a tour past farms and forests on this route to lchetucknee State Park. Both parks offer swimming, tubing, nature trails, and more. You can even camp at Rainbow Springs. Don’t forget to pack those swimsuits!

Finding valleys in Florida is sort of liking searching for palm trees in Alaska. However, there is an area of the state that geologists have dubbed “Bone Valley”. They’re referring to an acient fossil field that lies about 20 feet below the ground surface of this ride which loops through the phosphate mines of central Florida. We’ll stay above ground and take a tour through the quaint townships of Bartow, Fort Meade, Bowling Green, and Wauchula.

This ride starts in Apollo Beach and winds southward to Ellenton and back. The roads are mostly flat and straight with new subdivisions crowding out the farmland. At the southern end of this ride is a host of restaurants and such around the outlet mall. Enjoy a break before heading back out into the countryside for the return ride.

We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it and this ride has you crossing all five of Tampa Bay’s bridges. This route features some of the best the area has to offer; the palm-lined beaches along the Courtney Campbell Causeway, the unrivaled view from atop the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, the magnificent mansions along Bayshore Boulevard, and the old Florida scenery along US 41. We started our ride in Clearwater, but feel free to pick your own starting point.

This ride takes you past some of the architectural wonders of central Florida. Start out at Florida Southern College, home to many examples of Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs before riding out to the futuristic building along 1-4 that is home to Florida Polytechnic University. The route then winds through Winter Haven and past Legoland. Think of all the things that have been built with those little plastic blocks. The ride winds up at the famous Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales.
